Howth Martello Tower, Co Dublin

This is one of three martello towers associated with Howth (2 on the peninsula and 1 on Ireland's Eye). A fourth tower, near the isthmus, has been demolished. The outer surface of the tower has been rendered so that the quality of the stonework is not visible. However the machicolation, which protects the first floor entrance, is built of ashlar blocks. The other entrance is at ground level and is unlikely to be original.
