Gowkstown Wedge Tomb

Map Reference: D316108 (3316, 4108)

Gowkstown Wedge Tomb is set within a long cairn aligned SW-NE. It has a single large burial chamber and a small antechamber. The antechamber is flanked by a number of orthostats to form a straight facade. The burial chamber is formed from a number of large stones and there is one lintel stone in place. There is an outer kerb of closely spaced boulders and the space between the kerb and the burial chamber is filled with cairn material. Two of the stones forming the antechamber appear to have been worked to form a tight joint. This tomb is quite well preserved although a partial cover of gorse and sod obscures some of the detail.
