Ticloy Portal Tomb

Map Reference: D231118 (3231, 4118)

This small portal tomb has a chamber measuring about 1.2m square by 1.7m high internally. It is formed from three uprights and two portal stones. There are two capstones. One of the portal stones has now fallen within the chamber. The monument has been greatly disturbed in recent years. Some stones observed outside the chamber suggest that it had a shallow court. This is similar in this respect to the portal tombs at Tirnoney, Co Derry and Goward, Co Down and is taken by some scholars as proof of a connection between portal tombs and court tombs. However excavation has yet to reinforce this idea.
