Whitehouse Bawn

Map Reference: J350807 (3350, 3807)

This bawn is mentioned in maps and records of 1569. It was a gift from Elizabeth I to Captain Brunker in appreciation of his military service. In 1690 General Schomberg welcomed William III here. It is a rectangular building with four round corner flanking towers. The building has been used as a dwelling, a gospel hall and as a meeting place for the local history society. It is the oldest known building in the area but unfortunately it is in very poor condition.
