Summer Island Gate Lodges

Map Reference: H877542 (2877, 3542)

This is a very pretty pair of Gothick gate lodges dating from about 1820. They were built by the Clarke family. Each building has a central doorway flanked by high-cilled pointed windows with Y-tracery. Between them are four square Classical pillars carrying the main gates with flanking pedestrian entrances. The buildings are untenanted but are maintained in good condition. However the cotoneaster growing against the wall threatens to obscure the architectural detail.
