Brownshill Portal Tomb, Kernanstown

Map Reference: S755768 (2755, 1768)

In the townland of Kernanstown, the dolmen at Brownshill has the largest capstone in Ireland. Estimates of its mass range from 100 to 150 tons. One edge of the stone is earthbound and the other edge rests on three stones.

Two of these stones form a portal and the other is a doorstone. A fourth stone stands nearby. With the exception of some small stones under the capstone there is little cairn material remaining.
