Ballycasheen Portal Tomb

Map Reference: R250924 (1250, 1924)

This tomb has as single chamber 2.6m long. It is 2.3m wide at the E end and 1.4m wide at the W end. The east end of the chamber is closed by a high sillstone which is flanked by two tall portal stones. The N portal is intact and is 2.25m high. The S portal is broken in two. Each side of the chamber is composed of two overlapping slabs. The west end of the chamber is closed by a slab standing outside the ends of the chamber side. The capstone is not in place several broken pieces scattered over the site may be the remains of it. The surviving fragments of this tomb would indicate that it had a sharply tilted capstone.
