Altar Wedge Tomb

Map Reference: V859302 (0859, 0302)

This wedge tomb is about 3.5m long by 2m wide at the front and 1.5m wide at the back. There are two large capstones each about 2m square and three sidestones. There is no back or front stone. There is no antechamber visible and only slight traces of cairn material. During excavation in 1989 a pit was discovered at the E end of the burial chamber. It contained deposits of sea-shells and fish bones. At the W end of the chamber there was some cremated human bone. Worked flints, including scrapers, were found outside the chamber but they had already been disturbed.
