Ballyvongane Standing Stones

Map Reference: W410759 (1410, 0759)

The standing stones at Ballyvongane are noted on the map as being a stone row. In fact there are only two standing stones set at the SW end of a low mound about 3m long. Two recumbent stones lie at the NE end of the mound but these are considered to be field clearance. Of the two standing stones the SW stone is the larger, being about 1.7m tall and 75cm thick. It is roughly rectangular. The NE stone is about 70cm away and leans against the taller stone. It is about 1.4m tall and 40cm thick. The width varies from c90cm at the top to 50cm at the base.
