According to the stained glass panel over one of the windows F H Thompson& Son Ltd established the Bread and Cake Factory in 1826. The present building was erected about 1890. It is a huge twelve-bay five-storey structure, built from red brick with some sandstone at the ground floor and limestone quoins.
