Dungiven Standing Stone

Map Reference: C694084 (2694,4084)

Near St Patrick’s church is an oval mound about 16m across and just over 1m high. On top of the mound is a standing stone about 2m high by 1.1m broad and 25cm thick. It is held in position by packing stones which have been revealed by erosion. The antiquity of the stone is not known but tradition says that it commemorates an ecclesiastical assembly held here in 590 A.D.
