Drumcaw Megalithic Cist

Map Reference: J389412 (3389, 3412)

Drumcaw Cairn is now an oval structure but it is impossible to say what the original form was. It contains a megalithic cist. This is a stone-lined pit about 1m long and 50cm wide. The capstone is about 45cm thick and it has been moved to one side. I visited the site in 1985 when these two photos were taken. I attempted a return visit in June 2008 but I was informed firstly, that there was a crop in the field, and, secondly, that the cist was extemely overgrown and there was nothing much to see. Possibly a winter visit armed with a machete is in order.
