Cloghballymore Castle

Cloghballymore Castle was owned by the Kilkelly Family in the 16thC. It was later acquired by the Blakes who built the large attached mansion. This is now a nursing home. The interior of the castle is not accessible. It is in good condition but without its crenellations. It may be five storeys high and is lit mainly by small slit windows. There are some larger windows at the top level. The doorway is in two sections. The outer part is round-headed and the inner part is pointed. The small gap between my have been for a yett. This arrangement has been found in several other Co Galway castles.
