Temple Benan, Inismor, Aran

Map Reference: L885070 (0885, 2070)

This is part of St Enda’s Early Christian monastery. It is known locally as Teampall Bheanain. It is a good example of an early stone church built without antae. The other main difference between it and contemporary churches is that it is aligned N-S instead of E-W.

The narrow lintelled doorway is in the north gable.

There is only one window. It is narrow, round-headed in the east wall near the south end. The walls are almost perfectly preserved and are built from some very large limestone blocks.
