Ballintaggart Ogham Stones
Map reference: V464996 (0464, 0996)
At Ballintaggart, within a small cashel-like structure, are nine cigar-shaped sandstone
boulders with Ogham inscriptions. Four of the stones have incised crosses. The enclosure is
an old graveyard and there is a great deal of small stones as well as some larger grave
markers.
The
walls of the enclosure are not very thick and the diameter is about 30m. It is marked on
some maps as the site of a church but there are no traces of a building. The stones have
been collected from various locations in the vicinity of the enclosure.
