St Brendan's House, Kilmalkedar

Map Reference: Q404063 (0404, 1063)

This rectangular three-storey house is known both as St Brendan’s House and the Priest’s House. It may have been a clerical residence associated with the medieval church. The walls have a base batter and measure about 12m by 7m externally. There is a doorway in the south wall at first floor level. This may indicate the former presence of a fore-building. The ground-floor entrance in the south wall led directly to a chamber at the west end. There is a good description of the various architectural features published in the Archaeological Survey of the Dingle Peninsula. Read it and enjoy. I haven’t visited the site for many years and failed to make detailed notes.
