About 1206 Thomas FitzAnthony, Anglo-Norman Seneschal of Leinster, founded the Priory of SS Mary and Columba for the Canons Regular of St augustine. The Protestant parish church occupies the site of the chancel of the medieval priory church and incorporates its 15th century central tower. This is the White Tower.



There are other fragments of earlier buildings including the north tower or Black Castle, which is square below and octagonal above.





This has been converted into a mausoleum for the Tighe family. Elsewhere in the town there are two other old buildings but so far I have no information about them
