Loughscur Wedge Tomb

Map Reference: H023078 (2023, 3078)

The megalithic tomb at Loughscur appears to be a wedge tomb. Two large slabs form a facade with a portal. Surmounting these are two large slabs which may be a broken lintel.

The inner ends of these stones rest within the burial chamber. Two other similar stones cover the inner part of the burial chamber and there are several side stones and back stones. There is a small amount of cairn material visible but the structure is tightly surrounded by a modern stone pathway. Outside the pathway are several large stones and some cairn material, indicating that the original monument was much larger that at present.
