Blossom Gate, Kilmallock

Map Reference: R609276 (1609, 1276)

This is the only surviving gate of Kilmallock town walls. It is a three-storey tower with an off-centre gateway arch. There appears to be a stone stairway in the corner. This is lit by small slits. There is a large pointed window-opening at first floor level. This may be a later Gothick modification possibly dating from the same time as the large openings in King's Castle. Some stones projecting from the side of the tower are probably traces of the town wall.
