Barry Village Pump

Map Reference: N157606 (2157, 2606)

This pump stands at the main junction at the south end of the village of Barry. It is a free-standing cast-iron pump which was erected about 1900. Most of the village pumps in Ireland seem to have been erected around the turn of the century. It has a fluted shaft with a conical cap and a fluted spout. There is a slender curving handle. Ther design is not unique but it is unlike most of the village pumps in the county. It may have been erected by a local landlord rather than a local council. The pump is now out of use but remains an attractive object of focus within the village.
