Killincoole Castle

Map Reference: O001998 (3001, 2998)



This castle stands in a private farmyard and is not normally accessible to the public. I visited it in 1992 but it was not possible to explore the interior fully. It is a four-storey square tower with projecting towers at the N and S corners. All the corners are rounded. The building is vaulted above the ground floor and a modern stairway in the S tower ascends to above the vault. The north tower contains the remains of the original spiral stairway. The castle was built in the 15th or 16th century.
