Castle Burke

Map Reference: M167772 (1167, 2772)

This tower-house cannot be closely examined. It stands within a locked enclosure which is well-posted with “Danger” and “Keep Out” notices. The castle appears to be about five storeys high. There is a good base batter but most of the east wall and part of the south wall is missing. There is a lot of daylight showing through the building which suggests that any intact internal floors are restricted to the west side. There are some very large window openings in the north wall but they do not appear to be original features.

In the west wall there is a good blocked window with mullions and transoms. It seems to be at the first or second floor.

Above it is a small ogee-headed window which has some decoration.
