Monktown Castle

Only the northern half of this four-storey tower-house remains. There is a projecting tower at the NE corner. There was probably a corresponding tower at the SW corner which held the stairs. The castle is vaulted above the ground floor. There are large window openings at the first and second floors and a smaller one at the third floor. Rectangular earthworks to the north of the castle may be traces of the outbuildings of a possible bawn.
