Lynch's Castle, Summerhill

Lynch's Castle is a three-storey tower-house with later additions. There is a vaulted loft above the ground floor. A spiral stairway rises in the NW corner. About halfway up the first section of the stairs a deep recess leads to a defensive loop. There is another good loop to the left of the doorway, running diagonally through the wall to open just at the door jamb.



A double latrine-chute leads from garderobes in the north wall at first and second floor levels. There is a double chimney-stack. A later three-storey house is attached to the south wall with entrances broken through to the SW corner of the tower-house. This was originally T-shaped but only the west wing and part of the north wing remain. The west wing held the stairway.
