Clones Abbey

Map Reference: H503257 (2503, 3257)

This small building is usually known as Clones Abbey. It consists of the nave of a nave-and-chancel church which may date from the 12th century. The west wall which contains the chancel arch is best preserved, and there are good remains of the south wall, which contains a small round-headed window. Portions of the other walls may have been rebuilt.

The graveyard contains many stones dating mainly from the 18th century. They are similar to the stones in the larger graveyard but some of them have carved stars. There is a relief carving of a small ring-headed cross in the outer east wall of the church.
