Palace Stables, Armagh

This pump sits in the stable yard of the former Bishop's Palace. From a distance it could be mistaken for a typical Irish cow-tail pump. Closer inspection shows that it is much more ornate. The shaft is fluted with two raised bands. At the base of the pump-head is a band of hemispherical pellets. The spout is half plain and half foliate decoration. The head of the pump and the cap are both fluted. The finial is a stylised 'fleur de lys'.

The pump is inscribed A C Simpson Armagh. So far I have found that A C Simpson were building contractors in the 1950s and 60s. I have further research to do.
