This pump was made by Joseph Evans, Wolverhampton. It is thickly coated with paint but the 'lion' symbol is clear. The paint obscures the detail on the fluted head and cap. The pump operates through the cap.



There is a flange on the side of the shaft which allows for the attaching of a storage tank.



The spout of the pump is detachable and is fitted with a control.



Presumably when the pump was operated the tap from the spout would be closed and the pumped water would be diverted into the storage tank. The piston could then be lowered so that the stored water could then flow to the tap. The pump would then operate as a hydrant.
