This pair of hydrants have been made presentable by Corofin Tidy Towns. It is possible to see that one of them was made by Glenfield & Kennedy, Kilmarnock. They made be found all over Ireland and indeed all over the world. These examples are probably dating from the first half of the 20th century from a time when drinking water became available from reservoirs but before it became available inside individual houses. Many were still in use well into the later part of the of the century and indeed there are still a few working examples known. Many of them were decorated with a a lion's head spout and there are some examples in Dublin which have the coat-of-arms of the city.
