St James's Gate Drinking Fountains, Dublin

Near the Guinness Brewery is an obelisk with a different sundial on each face. Near the base of the structure, on opposing faces is a small bronze drinking fountain. Each is inscribed 'Keep the pavement dry' and 'T Kennedy Patentee, Kilmarnock'. Each fountain has a small fluted knob, a fluted spout and a very fine fluted bowl. Beneath each fountain is a bronze lion mask which does not appear to have any function.

This obelisk was erected in 1790. Originally the base was surrounded by a circular basin into which water flowed from the masks. It was later replaced by the Kennedy fountains.
