Garlegobban, Essexford

This pump stands very close to the border with Co Louth. The inscription is difficult to read but the pump seems to have been made by Russell at Park Street Foundry,Dundalk.

It is topped by a small finial looking like a conical Christmas tree. The spout has bands and ribs.

The lower section of the shaft is octagonal. The upper section is round. These features are also found on the pump in Louth Village

The pump drew water from a small stream which flows under the road. Before its installation people who required water from the stream had to descend a long flight of stone steps. These are still in place.
