Bally Beg Castle

Map Reference: S180535 (2180, 1535)

This small four-storey tower-house has a doorway in the east wall near the north end. A mural stairway rises on the right and through the east wall. The castle is vaulted over the first floor and also over the third floor, although this higher level is not easily accessible. There are mural passages in the north and south walls at first floor level. A gable mark on the east wall indicates a missing two-storey building.

This was reached through a large arched opening from the ground floor of the tower and a smaller rectangular opening at the first floor. The ground floor arch is now partially blocked. There are further lintelled openings in the north and south walls which may have been constructed to allow the tower to be used for cattle stabling.
