Giantsgrave Cross-inscribed Pillar
Map Reference: S181260 (2181, 1260)
This stone is surrounded by a wall more than 1m high with no visible footholds. This makes it very difficult to approach it closely and make accurate measurements. It is about 3m high and less than half a metre wide. On the south face there is a cross carved in relief. This is about 1m high and the top is gable-shaped, suggestive of the church-shaped capstones of some of the High Crosses. On the opposite face there is another cross. This is a simple rectilinear carving in false relief with a raised central boss.
