Nenagh Gaol seems to have been built in the early 19th century. It is entered through a strong gatehouse with spear-shaped projections. This leads by a broad path to the governorís residence.
This is a magnificent three-storey octagonal building with a central cupola. It is now the Nenagh Heritage Centre. Cell blocks radiated out from this building like the spokes of a wheel. Only one block remains. It is three storeys high and thirteen bays long
