Tombrickane Castle

Tombrickane Castle is four storeys high and is vaulted above the second floor. The entrance is in the east wall through a damaged doorway with only the south jamb still in place. To the right is a guard chamber and on the left is a small lobby which leads to a spiral stairway within the SE corner. However the stair and most of the stairwell is now missing.



Most of the doorways leading off the stairs at the upper levels are still in place. A passage may be seen in the south wall at first floor level. This led to a destroyed garderobe in the SW corner. There are traces of a latrine-chute in the west wall. There are good hinge-stones (top and bottom) at the entrance to the passage. level. There was a possible bartizan at the NW corner where there are some corbels in place. Most of the SW corner of the castle is missing.



Rory and William Kennedy were listed as proprietors in the Civil Survey of 1654. They are described as Irish Papists.
