Ballyclog Church

Map Reference: H866737 (2866, 3737)

I have been recently (May 2016) been informed that this church was built in 1622, but not all of the building may date from that time. There are indications that the building was extensively reconstructed and the porch and tower are certainly later insertions. The roofless church stands to full height and has some good red sandstone window frames. It is a rectangular building measuring 13m by 6.2m with a porch and bell tower at the west end. These additions are mainly red sandstone. The tower has corner pinnacles. The interior of the church has been disturbed by graves and the construction of a staircase down to a vault outside the west end. The burials in the graveyard seem to be 19th century and 20th century.
