Dun Ruadh Multiple-Cist Cairn

Map Reference: H623845 (2623, 3845)

This unusual monument has an outer ditch and earthen bank about 30m diameter. Within it is a horseshoe-shaped cairn with 17 standing stones enclosing an inner court. These were linked by short stretches of drystone-walling and there is a paved entrance in the southwest. Excavation revealed at least 13 cists which indicate Bronze Age burials. There was also some late neolithic pottery. None of the cists are now visible and the cairn has been greatly plundered for building material.
