Loughry Wedge Tomb

Map Reference: H812749 (2812, 3749)

This wedge tomb sits in the grounds of Loughry College on the summit of a glacial knoll. Only the larger structural stones remain. There is no trace of the original cairn. The tomb seems to be formed mainly of large limestone boulders. There is a rectangular gallery formed by eleven sidestones. It is 7.6m long by 1.5m wide. There is a single backstone at the east end. There are two large roofing lintels in place, resting on the first two pairs of matching sidestones. There are three stones of an outer wall along the north side and one stone at the south side. Three stones at the west end seem to form a facade.
