Kilmacthomas Forge

Map Reference: S392061 (2392, 1061)

This three-bay single-storey forge was built about 1820 and may have been originally detached. It was reroofed in 1945 and extensively renovated in 1995. It is now a dwelling. The horseshoe-shaped cut-stone doorway is an indication of the original use of the building. This style of decoration is not unique but it is far from common. I have seen only about 10 examples in Ireland but I am still searching.
