Fore Town Defences

Outer face of the NW gate

There are two gateways existing from the town walls of Fore. At the NW edge of the town the gateway is a round arch which gives access to a flat-headed recess within the town wall.

Inner face of the NW gate

There are indications that a second storey existed but there does not appear to be any access to the upper level. Along the top of the wall is a row of roof weepers which suggests that there had been a parapet. At the SE edge of the town is a similar archway. In this case the roof of the recess is missing.

Inner face of SW gate

At the south edge of this gate is s stairway tower which would have allowed access to any upper level.
