Danescastle

This castle is said to have been built by Sir Reginald le Denne in 1290 but dateable references are no older than 17th century when it was owned by Cheevers of Ballyhealy. The building is probably 15th or 16th century. It is a four-storey tower with a vaulted loft over the ground floor.



Access to the building is not possible at present. The above photos were taken in July 2008. During recent years the castle has become almost obscured by trees and bushes. The following photo was taken, from afar, in July 1984. It shows some more detail.
