Lisronagh Castle

Map Reference: S201293 (2201, 1293)



The tower-house at Lisronagh has a doorway in the north wall, with corbels for a machicolation at roof level. There is possibly a murder-hole but the area above the doorway is damaged and fragmentary.



A mural stairway rises to the right of the entrance.



The castle is vaulted above the first floor and there is a mural chamber at the west wall below the vault. The stairway continues in the west wall above first floor and above the vault are two storeys. There is a stairway in the north wall above the vault and a fine passage in the west wall at the third floor. A murder-hole leads from the second floor to the stairway in the north wall. There is a fireplace at the top floor and some fine two-light windows at this level. At the lower level there are corner slits at the NE and SE.
